5 World Natural Gas Resources 5.1 Natural Gas 5.1.1 Reserves The world’s proven natural gas reserves are about 1.52 × 10 ~ (14) m ~ 3, which is comparable with the oil reserves and can be used for 65 years according to the current consumption. It is estimated that the maximum reserves of natural gas exceed 4 × 10 ~ (14) m ~ 3. Natural gas is distributed all over the world. The first exporter is Russia, which accounts for 40% of the world’s natural reserves and 90% of the continent. 5.1.2 Production World Natural gas production is 58% of oil production (only 45% in 1980). In 1998, the market sold a total of 2.343 × 10 ~ (12) m ~ 3 natural gas.
