For a long time, the glauconite has been considered as a spontaneous mineral formed under specific ocean conditions and used as a maritime marker. With the continuous discovery of terrestrial glauconite, it is necessary to re-understand this view. Based on the statistical analysis of glauconite in different regions and different environments, this paper argues that: the glauconite can be formed both in the marine environment and in the continental lake environment, and the glauconite can not be used as the finger-like mineral in the marine environment; , The glauconite formed in continental lacustrine environment has the characteristics of Al2O3, K2O, and FeO in chemical composition compared with that of marine green stone formed in marine environment
