法国原子能委员会工作人员在加蓬铀矿床的一种矿石中发现了 U~(235)含量和某些稀土元素含量的值得注意的异常。该异常明显地超过了迄今为止在地球上所观察到的同位素相对含量的变化范围,用铷-锶方法测得矿床的年龄为1740±20百万年。假设矿床岩石受到通量为~10~(21)中子/厘米~2的中子照射,那末异常是可以理解的。为了解释中子的形成,提出了在1.7×10~9年以前曾发生过裂变链锁反应的假说,即天然核子反应形成假说。这个假说是很有趣的,也是完全可能的,因为那时 U~(235)的含量接近或超过3%。
Atomic Energy Commission of France found notable anomalies of U 235 and some rare earth elements in an ore from the Gabon uranium deposit. This anomaly significantly exceeds the range of variation in relative isotopes observed so far on earth, and the age of the deposit, measured by the rubidium-strontium method, is 1740 ± 20 million years. Assuming that orebodies are exposed to neutrons with a flux of ~ 10 ~ (21) neutrons / cm ~ 2, anomalies are understandable. In order to explain the formation of neutrons, a hypothesis that a fission chain reaction had occurred 1.7 × 10 ~ 9 years ago was proposed, that is, a natural nuclear reaction was formed. This hypothesis is interesting and completely possible, since at that time U 235 content approached or exceeded 3%.
