青霉素G、邻氯青霉素、氨苄青霉素、头孢硫脒、头孢噻吩、磷霉素和万古霉素作用于敏感的金黄色葡萄球菌(金葡菌)后可使细菌的分裂相减少和菌体形态改变。多种的形态变化仅见于具有中隔细胞壁的生长繁殖期细菌,无中隔细胞壁细菌则未见明显变化。在低浓度抗生素中,中隔细胞壁变厚、不规则和变形,有的呈念珠状或圆滴状。高浓度时嗜锇颗粒失去正常轮廓,数量减少,细胞质及核区结构模糊,并出现染色浅淡区。磷霉素尚可引起菌体明显增大,外周细胞壁变薄或缺失,甚至细胞的破裂。
