The Japanese scholar Masuda joined Masanobu Masuda in 1965 to publish an article entitled “The Definition of Script”, which raises questions about the training of the noun “vernacular”. After the article was published, aroused heated discussions between foreign and Taiwanese scholars. There are “Script Definition” (1968) by André Levy in France, “Conversation of Conversations in Song Dynasty” (1969) by Le Kuai-jun in Taiwan, and Pound’s new “Translated Script” (1972). I have missed these articles. It is already 1982 that I learned about this message in the note of his great collection “The History of Chinese Fiction” (1980), which was presented to me by Professor Ma Youyuan at the University of Hawaii.
