Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of serum parathyroid hormone in long-term platelet donors. Methods Twenty-one long-term platelet donors (providing a platelet history>5 years) were selected. Serum parathyroid hormone, calcium, and phosphorus were measured before and after platelet sampling. Twenty non-platelet donors were selected as the normal control group. Results After blood platelet collection, the serum parathyroid hormone concentrations of 21 blood donors were significantly increased, serum phosphorus was significantly reduced, and there was a significant difference compared with the pre-collection (P<0.01); Adenosine was significantly higher than normal control group (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference between serum calcium and phosphorus and normal control group (P>0.05). Conclusion The detection of parathyroid hormone has important guiding significance for the health status of long-term platelet donors.
