By June 1990, the Caribbean countries might develop a program that would develop their own marine resources without jeopardizing the environment. As part of the Commonwealth's initial project to develop marine resources in the Caribbean Sea, an Indian ocean survey vessel will depart from Goa on the west coast of India and reach the Caribbean Sea in April. The Caribbean Marine Resources Survey (CORE) plans to train 25 Caribbean scientists in oceanographic and marine science at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa since April last year. Ulrich Trötz, director of the Guyana Institute of Applied Science and Technology, said: "We will explore minerals and other marine resources, such as natural products obtained from marine plants.
