In the Renaissance Europe, the relationship between men and women continues the male-centered cognition and thinking. Women’s ethics and behavior have been subject to more stringent standards. Chastity is the first issue of women. Women’s body is not so much an expression of personal reality rather than an actual body and mind as it is a body of restraint and culture under the social class. In a sense, Renaissance artists, through their paintings, express another spiritual pursuit for the strict demands of Christianity on women’s chastity and the exclusion of physical pleasure.
