Researchers at Northwestern University in the United States confirmed that an average power of 0.67 W was generated at 5.9 μm quantum laser cascade (QC) laser at room temperature. The team reduced the dopant concentration of the emitter region including a gold-top contact layer by increasing the conduction band spacing of the heterostructure, lowering the threshold current density and the temperature at which the laser depends.
