常抗棉，原名原96，常熟市经济作物技术指导站和常熟徐市镇农技站合作于1984年以冀合328为母本与DELCOT277－5为父本杂交，连续在落叶型重黄萎病圃选育，于1991年有成。1995年4月由江苏省品种审定委员会委托苏州市农作物品种审定小组通过审定。特征特性该品种属中熟陆地棉类型
