这是一部上海版抗战史话,也是一本老上海的市民杂记,记述了从1937年8月13日日本侵略上海至1945年8月15日日本天皇下诏投降这8年间,作者“身为一个中国人留在上海又悲愤又狂喜的生活情况”。作者陈存仁是上世纪三四十年代老上海的名中医。他早年师从章太炎先生,后创办了中国第一份普及医药和保健知识的报纸《康健报》,1935年编纂三百多万字的《中国药学大辞典》,抗战爆发之前就再版27次。
