Streptomyces ravidus NRRLHov.sp. 1130, a strain of Streptomyces belonging to the family Retinaculum Apertum, was isolated from the soil of Guatemala to produce a new antibiotic Ravidomycin that inhibits the gram-positive bacteria. Antibiotics were extracted from mycelium by organic solvent and purified by silica gel column chromatography.
