对多数人而言,“中国”和“汉”几乎是同义词,因为人口普查的结果显示,95%以上的中国人是汉人。“汉”这个字在我们脑海里可以引发诸多联想,虽然其确切的语源仍有待考证推敲~2:“汉代”是一个在公元纪年开始前后与罗马帝国并驾齐驱的朝代;“汉语”是中国人的官方语言:“汉化”是指非汉民族采纳汉族文化的过程;即使在普通名词中,也常用“好汉”来指称具备男子气概的人,并用“汉奸”来指称卖国贼,以上仅举几个例子。不过这样简单的等式,却掩盖了中国实际上所拥有的丰富的文化异质性,也忽略了几千年来交织出今日
