任何一个画家、艺术家的成功,都离不开长期、艰苫和勤奋的努力。所以清代画家沈宗骞发过一番议沦,他说:“从事笔墨者,初十年但得略识笔墨性情,又十年而规模粗略,又十年而神理少得,三十年后乃可几于变化,此其大概也。……及至功深火到,自有不可磨灭光景,足以信今而传后。”(见《芥舟学画编》)尽管他这种论断近乎主观机械,但其本意还是强调一个画家的成长、成功,不可能一蹴而就,这一基本观点还是正确的。用这段话印证济荣的从艺历程,从某种意义上看,我觉得也还适当。济荣在这数十年漫长岁月里,始则潜心学习,进修深造;继而深入生活,积累素材,同时于担负繁重的教学任务之余,坚持不懈地从事人物画的创作实践。他不务外观,不由捷径,专注艺事,锲而不合,这些精神特点,正是他今日《功深火到》取得丰硕成果的可靠保证。

He is not responsible for the appearance, the shortcut, the concentration of work, and the perseverance of these spirits. It is exactly the reliable guarantee that he has achieved fruitful results today.
