20世纪西方音乐学的重要发展之一,就是将“演奏”视作研究的对象,把具体音响作为音乐文化研究的参照之一。留声技术迄今百余年以来,为音乐家们如何诠释当时及更早期的音乐作品提供了直接且重要的研究佐证。同样地,自1960年代在西方开始逐渐发挥影响力的“复古演奏”(Historical Performance),则对演奏古代音乐提出了完全不同于传统演奏的观念与手法——还原属于该时代的“时代风格”。这一“新”的演奏观念,不但为我们研究三百年前的音乐文化提供了不同视角,同时也在演奏美学中注入了历史意识,
