Thirty years ago, the Swiss sociologist Forrker Bernstein, in an article published in this issue, argued that the long-term effects of transnational corporations - notably for poorer countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America - are clearly negative . Neo-liberalism has shown a propensity to return since the first 30 years: the belief that open markets, foreign direct investment and government non-intervention are the ideal and only good ways to achieve long-term, stable economic growth and full employment. In 30 years later, Bernstein’s assertion still holds true in a world caught in the worst economic recession since the 1930s? In our study, designed by Bernshir in the 1980 article, transnational corporations did apparently expand Unequalness has undoubtedly contributed to the recent economic downturn in global development.
