About the Author and Works Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), born in Boston, U.S.A., moved to Concord and graduated from Harvard University at age 4 with his family. Has taught in private schools, amateur writing and pencil factory in their own home to help work. From 1845 to 1847, he experimented with his transcendental existence in Waldensee, near Concord, and became the representative of the American transcendentalism movement. Died of tuberculosis in 1862 and was buried at the Slieve Valley Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts. Walden, a quiet collection of essays, masterpiece by Henry David Thoreau. The Bible of the new age of mankind was chosen as one of the 25 books that shaped the American audience.
