《独弦操》又名《忧心曲》。顾名思义,前者是说明单独为一根弦而进行的创作,亦有只用一条弦独立操奏之含;而后者却是说明创作者旨在体现的思想内涵。由此想来,其名“独弦”也好,“忧心”也罢,是都有其道理的。而且是贴近刘天华当时创作这首乐曲的思想境况和时代背景的。刘天华受聘进京就职时,就抱定终生为“唤醒民族的灵魂的音乐”这种精神去工作。他为此宏愿而奋斗,做了种种努力,取得一些人所共知的成就。但是内忧外患、民穷财尽的社会现实,使他难以为国为民大展宏愿,由于各方面的制约每每不尽人意。所以后来又特别寄希望于北伐军的胜利。可是 “Strings” also known as “worry song.” As its name implies, the former is an account of the creation of a single string and the other is of a single string.
