本文主要探讨福尔斯的后现代主义名著《法国中尉的女人》中女主人公萨拉的主体性及其表现。首先,她主体的神秘性表现在她身份的神秘性和男性话语建构下的主体存在;其主体的颠覆性则来自于她对传统婚姻观的拒绝和对自由的追求与把握,并从她对查尔斯的婚姻生活和人生观所产生的决定性影响具体表现出来。同时,另一主人公蒂娜对婚姻和人生的理解又与萨拉形成了鲜明的对比和反衬。萨拉拒绝了维多利亚时代传统道德观念,以全新的理念和行为诠释着自己对自由的理解和追求,这也正是该作品的后现代主义特性之一。

Sarah rejected the traditional concept of Victorian ethics, with a new philosophy and behavior of interpretation of their own understanding and pursuit of freedom, which is exactly one of the postmodernist features of the work.
