It has recently been suggested that adenosine may be a bronchial irritant that indirectly causes bronchial hyperresponsiveness as data suggest that it causes bronchoconstriction by increasing histamine (histamine) release from mast cells in the airways. In order to further investigate the role of AMP (5’-AMP) in stimulating the release of histamine from mast cells, the histamine concentrations in peripheral blood were measured after methacholine, AMP and 10 sensitizers were inhaled.
