Early developmental stages of fish Embryos and larvae are the most sensitive to various pollutants throughout their life history and many authors highlight the importance of using toxicity tests in early stages of fish development in water quality assessments. Paralichthys olivaceus is an important economic fish off-shore in China. In some places, artificial breeding research has been carried out, and the early development and morphological characteristics of the fish have been reported in more detail. In this study, the effects of heavy metals Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and Cr on embryos and larvae were studied using fertilized eggs of Japanese flounder to provide a scientific basis for the protection of marine resources and environmental management.
