北京,一座具有悠久历史文化的古都,千百年来一直是北方乃至全国的政治、经济、文化中心。清朝覆亡后,大批的达官显贵、文人墨客以及鬻画为生的画家聚居于此,形成浓厚的艺术氛围。同时,皇室贵族的古玩书画大量流出,加上众多的古玩店铺,交易活动十分活跃,由此造就了艺术品市场的高度繁荣。市场的供给群体民国初年,北京参与书画市场的群体众多,旧皇室贵族、遗老遗少、社会名流、政府官员和传统收藏家,无不涉足其中。
