《周易》是建立在数基础上的预测符号系统。其作者只所以用数来建构这个系统，是由于受远古先民数崇拜意识的影响。数崇拜意识来源于数神秘意识。无论是爻卦符号的制作和形成，还是求卦方式和占筮的著草都深深体现远古先民的数神秘意识。数神秘意识导致了数崇拜意识。《周易》的数崇拜意识主要反映在对数的从已知推未知的推演功能方面，集中体现在“穷理尽性以至于命”、“极数知来”两个命题上。《周易》的数崇拜意识作为一种潜在的文化意识，深深影响了我国古代的文化和科技，它所倡导的通过数“穷理尽性至今”的思想在秦以后沿着儒家方向、易卦方向、数学方向发展。在我们现代化建设的今天，《周易》仍具有重要的精神价值意义。
