近年来道路的建设速度很快,其中大部分路面的质量良好,但也有不少路段在建成通车后不久,短的几个月,长的2~3年,就不得不进行大面积维修。路面的早期损坏问题引起了广泛的关注。路面损坏发生并不是孤立的,有施工管理上的原因(造成路面结构本身存在缺陷),也有汽车严重超载等原因,但是更为普遍的情况是多种因素的综合作用。其中,填方路基的不均匀沉降是导致路面变形破坏的主要原因之一。填方路基的不均匀沉降不但会导致路基本身的损坏,还会因路基顶面的不平整在路面结构内产生附加应力,附加应力本身或与车载等共同作用,将导致路面结构的损坏。路基本身的损坏主要表现为填土裂缝,而路面结构的损坏有多种表现形式,可以统称为路面病害。此外,边坡失稳是路基特定部位不均匀沉降发展到一定程度之后的破坏形式。
