The purpose of this study was to observe whether changing the position will cause changes in pleural fluid composition and what the clinical significance of this change. Materials and Methods 14 patients with unilateral stable pleural effusion were selected. Patients were given the choice of one position for thoracentesis first, and another for 30 minutes before using the second thoracentesis. If the patient prefers a supine position, the patient takes the position for 30 minutes and then sits up for a thoracentesis (from sitting up to chest wear <1 minute).
