A Linguistic Theory ofTranslation by J.C.Catford is an important translation theory. Since it was introduced to China in the early 1980s, it has aroused widespread concern in the field of translation. Some English translation courses for English majors have listed it as a necessary reference book. The translation of such a book by the full text into Chinese is a major issue for the translator community and one of the most valuable things that can not be done at present. The translation of academic works should satisfy two basic requirements: one is to understand the author’s academic viewpoint and the other is to ensure that the readers of the translation can get the same information as the original readers.
