Among displays that have been developed to meet the military market and have been gradually commercialized, there is a liquid crystal light valve that is addressed with a neodymium-yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) laser. Its projected image can display high-density information in several colors with very high resolution and contrast. Other attractive new features of the new smectic liquid crystal technology include fast selective erase and long-term storage of information directly in the liquid crystal light valve.
