The oxygen vacancy concentrations of quartz in 13 samples from the Lower Tertiary Sandstone in the Liaohe Basin were tested by ESR technique and found to be closely related to the total dose received (which can be converted to sedimentary age). Based on this experiment, ESR dating models of Quaternary sediments in the Liaohe oil-bearing basin are proposed. Oxygen vacancy concentration in quartz in sediments is a new ge-scale geochronometer that can be an effective tool for stratigraphic division
