In the 1950s, Japanese films began with Akira Kurosawa’s “Rashomon” and won prizes at the most prestigious international film festivals, bringing the Japanese film to the world and becoming a movie power. However, Japanese movies rely on what is based on the world, in the past is rather vague. The fact that the Japan Film Retrospective was held in Beijing has enabled us to think more deeply about the reasons why Japanese films have gone to the world. The analysis of this show’s “Moonlight Story” seems enlightening for our understanding of the characteristics of Japan’s art films of the 1950s. The subtle, delicate expression of the film, and the serious thinking of the people, make people feel some of the unique features of Japanese cinema.
