Various methods for measuring the cutting temperature using sub-measurements are reviewed, pointing out that infrared photography is certainly better than other methods for accurately measuring the temperature distribution in the cutting zone. For more than two decades, the thermal sensitivities of high-speed infrared films have risen dramatically. It is now possible to use infrared photography for the determination of the cutting temperature without hot workpieces, tools. Annealed steel with 18% nickel was used to determine the temperature of the cutting zone at a cutting speed of 80-160 feet per minute. The results show that the temperature of the surface layer is very high, and the temperature below the surface decreases with the increase of the depth. When the wear increases or the tool becomes dull, the cutting temperature increases.
