扁豆,学名小扁豆(Lens culinaris Medik),是甘肃中部干旱地区栽培历史悠久的主要豆类作物之一。定西地区常年种植面积30~35万亩,约占全省播种面积的一半。在旱作农业中占有重要地位,一是轮作倒茬、用地养地的重要作物,是小麦的优良前茬;二是含丰富的营养物质,不仅是人们喜食的粮食作物,也是家畜的饲料来源;三是重要的出口物资。从1980年开始,经过5年的引种试验、示范,已成功地筛选出英国扁豆和中绿扁豆新品种,并于1990年6月通过验收鉴定。
Lentils, the scientific name Lens culinaris Medik, is one of the major legumes cultivated in arid regions of central Gansu.
