第二次世界大战结束后，世界历史开始了大调整时期。这一方面是本世纪前５０年历史演变的结果，另一方面又是将来建立新的世界秩序的过渡时期。调整时期尚未结束，要再过２０—３０年才能看出将来世界新秩序的轮廓。东欧剧变和苏联解体加速了调整进程，并使调整具有新的特点。东亚在经济高速增长方面居全球之冠，但在区域经济合作方面却落后于欧洲和北美。东亚地处太平洋的中枢位置，是２１世纪世界的主要竞技场。太平洋世纪正在到来，它对于世界经济的发展有极其重要的意义。太平洋地区集中美日俄四雄于一洋，东盟的发展令世人瞩目。今后必须善处四国五方的关系。东方文化具有强调个人修养、强调群体，搞好人际关系，实现和谐统一的优秀传统。对经济发展和区域经济合作可以起良好的作用。今后必须学习和吸收其他文化的优秀成果，创造出一种全新的文化，迎接新世纪的到来，推动合作事业的发展。第二次世界大战结束以后５０年的世界历史发展，具有三个重要特点。一是经历着历史的大调整时期；二是东亚的崛起，正在成为世界经济的新的力量中心；三是亚太经济合作蓬勃开展，开创亚太经济发展的新阶段。这些都是具有长远历史意义的事件。
After the end of World War II, world history began a period of great readjustment. On the one hand, this is the result of the historical evolution of the first half of this century, on the other hand, the transitional period for the establishment of a new world order in the future. The period of adjustment is not over. It will take another 20-30 years to see the outline of a new world order in the future. The drastic changes in Eastern Europe and the breakup of the Soviet Union accelerated the adjustment process and brought new characteristics to the adjustment. East Asia ranks first in the world for its rapid economic growth but lags behind Europe and North America in terms of regional economic cooperation. Located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, East Asia is the main arena of the 21st century. The Pacific Century is coming. It is of great significance to the development of world economy. The United States, Japan, and Japan are concentrating on the Pacific in the Pacific. The development of ASEAN attracts world attention. In the future, we must be good at relations between the four nations and five parties. Eastern culture has the outstanding tradition of emphasizing individual accomplishment, emphasizing groups, improving interpersonal relationships and achieving harmony and unity. It can play a good role in economic development and regional economic cooperation. In the future, we must learn from and absorb the outstanding achievements of other cultures and create a completely new culture to meet the advent of the new century and promote the development of cooperative undertakings. The 50 years of world history after the end of the Second World War have three important characteristics. One is experiencing a period of great readjustment in history; the other is that the rise of East Asia is becoming the new center of strength for the world economy; and the third one is the vigorous development of Asia-Pacific economic cooperation and the new phase of economic development in the Asia Pacific region. These are events of long-term historical significance.
