1940年夏初,正是抗战进入相持阶段,陈嘉庚先生肩负南洋华侨重托,从千里迢迢的新加坡,回到祖国慰劳考察。在重庆期间,他会见了许多国民党要人,也会见了中共参政员叶剑英、林伯渠、董必武。陈嘉庚在与叶剑英等人的坦诚交谈中,用了几句别开生面的比喻,阐述了他和共产党人之间的共同点。他说,我不是一个共产党员,不过你们共产党员革命的目的,辛辛苦苦,流血牺牲,也不过是为了改造社会,使国家好,民族好。我呢,这些年来也挣了一些钱,都拿来办学校,所谓取之社会,用之社会。我的希望也不过是要社会好,这一点初心,我想我和你们共产党人改革社会的动机原是一样的。 In the early summer of 1940, it was the stalemate in which the war of resistance entered a stalemate. Mr. Tan Kah Kee returned home to Singapore to return to his motherland for study and investigation while shouldering the mission of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia. During his stay in Chongqing, he met with many important Kuomintang officials and also met with Ye Jianying, Lin Boqu and Dong Biwu, CPC members. In candid talks with Ye Jianying and others, Tan Kah Kee elaborated on some unusual metaphors about his common ground with Communists. He said: I am not a communist member. However, the purpose, hard work, and bloodshed and sacrifice of your communists are no more than a revolution in society and a good state and a good nation. I, too, have made some money in these years and used them to run schools and take the society as their own. My hope is nothing more than social goodness. At first glance, I think the motives for reforming society by your Communists themselves are the same.
