(A) Infrared Imaging, Bright Prospects Overall, the prospect of thermal imaging is indeed bright. It is expected to see significant growth in environmental monitoring, process monitoring and material testing. It is expected that the application of non-process control will double by 1990. According to Smith, general manager of AGEMA Infrared Devices, the company’s operations will achieve significant growth, with fixed installations increasing by 10% to 15% over the next two years, and up to 50% in the future, potentially controlling the entire application area. Smith also predicts that once a fixed scanner is used to monitor high-value devices without the need for a portable device to perform individual inspections, the demand for fixtures will increase significantly. For example, blast furnaces, kilns, and chemical reaction devices can all be monitored by feeding data back to the control room where the actual monitoring takes place and the calculated fixed infrared scanning system.
