我厂七台硅铁电炉继安装捣炉机后,于一九七四年在伟大的批林批孔运动推动下,实现了机械加料。这一项改革是在原有厂房和设备条件下进行的。通过把原有三个大面机械加料管的空间部位适当提高,并在Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ三相电极的小面各安装一套机械加料装置,使炉料可以加至全部料面的90%以上。这样基本上甩掉了硅铁炉的大锹,实际证明是可行的,实行机械加料的最大优点是使用简易的方法,以机械动力取代人工投料,大大地减轻了操作人员的劳动强度。改善了劳动条件。
