Ardisia crenata, a plant of the Myrsinaceae family, is distributed in temperate regions of Asia and cultivated in Japan as an ornamental plant. However, in China, it was used as a folk medicine for the treatment of respiratory tract infections and irregular menstruation. The plant contains chemical components such as bergenin, 11-O-syringyl bergenin, carotene, and a saponin. The author also reported that several new triterpene saponins were isolated from the roots of the plant. Two new bergenin derivatives 1, 2 and 3 known bergenine components 3, 4 and 5 were isolated and identified from the roots of this plant. The roots of the plants were collected from Jiangxi Province, China. 1988). 5kg dry root powder is first degreased with petroleum ether and then used
