台湾地区佛教的演变始于明末清初,经历了三个阶段:先是随移民来台的属于闽南神鬼信仰的佛教,其次是随日本各宗来台、为军国主义殖民服务的带有殖民色彩的佛教,最后是从大陆传入的传统汉传佛教及其发展出的人间佛教等。这三股佛教思想在台湾汇集,彼此相互渗透影响。国民政府来台后,佛教经过戒严时期的整合与酝酿,及解严后的转型与创新,开创了全新的台湾佛教。台湾的佛寺建筑也因不同的佛教力量影响而呈现了多种的面貌。尤其是“人间佛教”的思想在台成为主流后,在开创台湾佛教现代化的同时,台湾佛教建筑也从传统中转化,表现出现代化的创新建筑空间。台湾佛教建筑从此进入蕴含新佛教精神的时代。
The evolution of Buddhism in Taiwan began in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and went through three stages: first, Buddhism that came to Taiwan along with immigrants belonged to Minnan goddess; followed by colonialism that came to Taiwan with various Japanese troops and serve for militarist colonialism Color of Buddhism, and finally the traditional Han Buddhism introduced from the mainland and its development of human Buddhism. These three Buddhist thoughts are brought together in Taiwan and mutually influence each other. After the Nationalist government came to Taiwan, Buddhism started a whole new Buddhism in Taiwan through the integration and deliberation of the martial law and the transformation and innovation after its solution. Taiwan's Buddhist temple architecture also showed a variety of appearances due to the influence of different Buddhist forces. Especially after the idea of “human Buddhism” has become the mainstream in Taiwan, Taiwan's Buddhist architecture has also been transformed from tradition in its attempt to modernize Buddhism in Taiwan, demonstrating a modern and innovative architectural space. Taiwan's Buddhist architecture has since entered an era of new Buddhist spirit.
