Whenever I talk about reading with young friends, I always tell them a story about the famous writer Zhou Libo. It was 40 years ago, I just graduated from college, came to Changsha, a literary publication editor. Shortly after the “Great Leap Forward” climax, the polemic of “leftist” still filled the urban and rural areas. The contributions received by the editorial department were also branded “leftist.” In order to clarify the confusion among young writers, the editorial office decided to run a reading class and invited several leading writers in Hunan and leaders of the literary and art circles to give lectures. Zhou Libo is a famous writer, and was chairman of Hunan Literary Federation at the time.
