From March to September 2000, our delegation of 28 people was dispatched by the Organization Department of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee to study administration at the Central University of Connecticut in the eastern United States. During this period, I was fortunate enough to know more about the political, economic and cultural aspects of the United States, especially the environmental issues closely related to people’s lives. Many of the ways Americans treat the environment deserve our lesson. As we all know, the United States is the most economically developed country in the world. Its economy accounts for nearly 30% of the world economy and its per-capita living space has reached 80m2.
