我生于闽南侨乡一个小村庄,邻居大都是侨属。小学时,我学会了26个英文字母和简单的日常用语,常常帮邻居抄写英文信封,跟远在菲律宾的亲友通信联系。邻居们的鼓励使我对英文产生了兴趣。初中时的一个寒假,学校办了英文补习班,我参加学习林汉达的《英文文法ABC》,懂了一些语法,开始读点短文,渐渐迷上了英文。但当时经济不好,纸笔奇缺,幸好中学倚着海滩,我便用树枝当笔,在沙滩上默写单词,写了一遍,用手擦掉再写,连写几次,单词就记住
I was born in a small village in the hometown of overseas Chinese in Minnan. Most of my neighbors are overseas Chinese. In primary school, I learned 26 English letters and simple everyday language. I often used my neighbor to copy English envelopes and communicate with relatives and friends in the Philippines. The encouragement of neighbors brought me interest in English.
