Tanggula Mountains lie in the belly of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is the birthplace of the world famous rivers - the Yangtze River, Nu River and the Lancang River. In the past several years, the author has made unforgettable impressions on the profound evolution of the paleogeographic environment caused by the field investigation in the area due to the strong uplift of mountains during the Late Cenozoic. This paper intends to take the Tanggula mountain pass as an example to make a preliminary exploration and discussion on the change of the natural environment in the mountain area since the Pliocene, which may help to understand the evolution of Quaternary paleogeography and environment in the whole Tibetan Plateau.
