廖平《春秋》学的核心是以礼制说经,尤以《王制》为要。在廖平看来,《王制》一书,是孔子《春秋》之根荄所系。孔子修《春秋》乃为后王立法的素王之作,《王制》则是孔子改制立法之作。廖平《穀梁》研究的宗旨,就是通过对《穀梁》中所含礼制的发掘,与《王制》相互发明,发掘今文礼制大纲,探求《春秋》微言大义,论证《春秋》乃孔子“拨乱反正,以俟后圣”的政治制作,确立《穀梁》为今文正宗的地位。
