For the future of the Internet, first understand its past. More than a decade ago, the Internet was still patented by researchers at US universities and government labs when the Internet was still in its infancy, without World WideWeb, without e-commerce and without Java applets. The mid-to-late 1980s the Internet came to the public and in the early 90s boarded the commercial arena. Today, the Internet is booming and overwhelming. The Internet, originally designed for thousands of graduate students and some rocket experts, is clearly overwhelmed by the 25 million connected hosts today and 400% annual traffic growth. At the same time, the requirements for the reliability, security and usability of the Internet are constantly increasing. Therefore, the United States will invest in the next generation of network technology and application research, a move that may affect the Internet in 1998 and beyond commercial development. The main content of this research project is ”the next generation
