Defense electronics experts have long placed great hopes for the potential applications of millimeter waves to improve the effectiveness of many weapon systems. It is claimed that this conventional microwave (centimeter) radar is of high precision and susceptible to adverse climatic conditions as compared to the photoradiometric radar (wavelength: 0 to 15 microns), so millimeter-wave systems are used in radar, missile guidance and communications There are many military applications. This article identifies the characteristics of the millimeter-wave band in the electromagnetic spectrum and examines the possibilities for various military uses to determine whether the current millimeter-wave technologies and components present a significant technological breakthrough.
