Linguistic imperialism has been widespread throughout the world, especially when English has become the dominant language in many f ields and the United States has become the only super power in the world. The craze for ‘pure’ American English accent has brought about the abundance of a lot of training programmes and websites such as www.americanaccent.com. This essay analyses this website from the perspectives of micro- and macro-indexicalities and presents a critique of the linguistic imperialism. Moreover, the article gives suggestions as to how to take advantage of the language resources for our best benef it and at the same time how to resist the linguistic hegemony in our teaching and learning of the English language.
