Two previous articles (Jones et al., 1983) described the seasonal changes in calcium content during apple fruit development and highlighted the important role of short leaf blades in achieving calcium content in fruit. The factors that affect calcium absorption were analyzed by simple plastid flow hypothesis. According to this hypothesis, the absorption of calcium is derived from the product of the calcium concentration in the cytosol and the product water. However, it is clear that the results obtained with this method are consistently low early in growth and high in the first month before harvesting.
