The Western student movement and the anti-Vietnam war in the 1960s gave birth to Britain’s second-generation dramatist after World War II. Profound doubts about the political and economic system of capitalism prompted them to abandon the traditional concept of theater and reconsider the function of theater and its clients. Their work is a fierce attack on conservative politics and the liberal economy, directly intervenes in real life and consciously plays the role of social spokesman for disadvantaged groups. Their mature works attempt to explore both human and social issues from a social and psychological point of view, attempting to combine the broad perspective of epic drama with the delicate characterization of realistic drama, and achieved remarkable achievements
