Happy or satisfied employees have good performance. Intuitively, this sounds logical. We generally think so. But intuition is often confusing, and it’s the same here. Many companies invest a lot of money to increase employee job satisfaction. They introduced flexible working hours, provided childcare services, provided generous pensions, decorated the workplace more attractively, and so on. However, the turnover rate of employees remains high and productivity has not improved. In fact, although there is a positive correlation between satisfaction and productivity, this correlation is very weak. It is more likely that productivity may increase satisfaction rather than the opposite.
