1995年,笔者与傅举有、傅聚良两位先生在整理湖南省博物馆馆藏古代铜镜时,傅举有先生首先注意到征集品中有一面饰帆船纹的铜镜。此后,笔者因负责这部分铜镜的整理,便十分注意查找相关资料,发现饰帆船纹的铜镜较为少见。该镜征集自湖南的常德地区,直径约22.7、边厚0.65厘米。稍缺损,比较厚重。半球钮较大,钮座叠于高浮雕双龙之上,钮座外围有两组弦纹,弦纹之间有铭文“吕氏作镜善毋伤,工(巧)(?)(工)刻之成文章,左龙有(右)虎辟不羊(祥),朱爵(雀)玄武顺阴
