This is the wish of a scientist: When he learns that a new discovery has been made in a mathematical field that was developed 150 years ago, it has been confirmed that this field of mathematics can contribute to a new material he is studying. Dr. Thomas, a Materials Science and Engineering professor, contacted David Hoffman, one of two mathematicians at the University of Massachusetts at the University of Massachusetts, where he reported the new Find. Their discussion bridges the gap between materials science and mathematics and has led Professor Thomas to make a breakthrough in polymer engineering.
